The essentials

Economic calendars show release time, previous figures, forecasts and actual results. Check the selected time zone, measurement units and whether the data is seasonally adjusted. Earlier figures may be revised.

Put it in context

Markets respond to expectations, revisions and policy implications as well as the headline number. A higher CPI reading does not guarantee a particular currency move. Several announcements can arrive at the same time.

Before you act

Use the economic calendar to prepare, then confirm important releases with the publishing agency. Avoid treating an impact rating as a prediction.
